280 Nepalis stranded in Gujrat due to lockdown

KATHMANDU: As many as 280 Nepali people have been stranded in the Gujarat State of India due to lockdown imposed by the Indian government to stem Coronavirus spread.

They have been forced to stay under the open sky for the last 45 days according to a Nepali migrant worker.

There have been complaints that the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi has not paid heed to their woes despite repeated requests.

According to them, they have even talked to Chief District Officer Bardiya Prem Lal for their rescue, said Prem Sunar, a migrant worker.

“We have no money and are suffering from hunger. The health condition is getting worse due to lack of food and shelter. The Nepal government is ignoring our appeal,” complained Sunar.

Eighty among those stranded in Gurarat are from Bardia alone while the rest are from Sudurpashchim Pradesh.

Over 500,000 Nepali nationals have been stranded in various parts of India due to the lockdown.
