NA members bat for at least 15 percent of budget for agricultural sector



KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) members participating in the deliberation on the principles and priorities (except tax proposal) of the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal 2020/21 have viewed that new budget should keep the agriculture sector in high priority.

Ramchandra Rai viewed that the government should maintain good-governance and consider increasing wages for the laborers.

Ganga Kumari Belbase viewed that the agriculture sector should be allocated at least 15 percent of the total budget to be unveiled on May 28 for the fiscal year 2020/21.

She also protested the India’s act of encroaching Nepal’s territory Lipulekh to construct the road and demanded with the government to protect our territory.

Anita Devkota opined that the government should address the prospects of unemployment in the country when the Nepali migrant workers abroad would return home. The upcoming budget should take into account job creations.

Pramila Kumari said that the government should acknowledge the adverse impact of the COVID-19 to the industrial sector and other sectors in the country and introduce programs and policies that would offset the adverse impact.

Gopal Bhattarai asserted that the health sector should be accorded the highest priority in the upcoming budget considering COVID-19 pandemic and its fallout.

The budget should also consider managing the open border with India to prevent and control COVID-19 and other infections.

Indu Kadariya highlighted the need for the government to increase agricultural products and allocate budget accordingly. Sharada Devi Bhatta drew the attention of the government towards ending violence against women.
