People stranded in Surkhet and Nepalgunj being airlifted



SIMKOT: The Humla people stranded in various parts of the country including Surkhet  and  Nepalgunj are being airlifted to their respective villages starting Saturday.

In response to the grievances of the Humla residents, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation decided to airlift those stranded in Nepalgunj and Surkhet from today.

The inhabitants of Namkha, Simkot and Kharpunath rural municipality have been stranded in Nepalgunj and Surkhet since the government enforced lockdown to stem Coronavirus pandemic.

According to sources, the first flight of Saturday is scheduled to rescue the inhabitants of Namkha now in those places.

Three planes of Sita Air and 1 each of Tara and Summit Air will be carrying a total of 1,390 people —  495 stranded in Nepalgunj and 895 in Surkhet — back to Humla.

Once the rescued people reach Humla, they should stay in mandatory quarantine.

The stranded passengers and their relatives back home had been requesting for their rescue for more than a month.
