NC President Deuba condoles death of Adhikari, Khadgi



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed his sorrow over the demise of the first singer of the Radio Nepal and freedom fighter Ranu Devi Adhikari.

Adhikari, who was suffering from high blood pressure and diabetics, passed away on Thursday in course of treatment at Medicare Hospital. She was 83.

In a condolence message, Deuba, also the former Prime Minister lauded Adhikari’s courage for singing the songs for freedom in the radio (then Prajatantra Radio) at the time when the nation was going through democratic movements against the autocracy.

Stating that it was very inspiring to hear Adhikari’s songs at those times, Deuba extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Adhikari had sung songs in the Prajatantra Radio established by Tarani Prasad Koirala at the Jute Mill of Biratnagar during the democratic movement in the 1950s, he reminded.

NC has acknowledged the active role played by Adhikari in the democratic movements in the country.

Meanwhile, NC, the major opposition party, has also expressed its sorrow over the demise of Kathmandu metropolitan city-31’s former ward chair Ganesh Bahadur Khadgi and has extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Khadgi, who had actively contributed to the democratic movements and expansion of the NC across the country, died on Tuesday.
