KATHMANDU: Senior leader of ruling Nepal Communist Party, Madhav Kumar Nepal has rejected Prime Minister and party Chairman KP Oli’s proposal to make him party’s third chairman. NCP has currently two chairmen — Pushpa Kamal Dahal and KP Oli .
Senior leader of NCP Nepal, in a meeting with PM Oli on Thursday, turned out the latter’s offer saying that he would not accept the offer for the post of third chairman.
Earlier, in a party’s Secretariat meeting on Wednesday, PM Oli had proposed to make senior leader Nepal the third chairman of the party, and Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam the country’s new Prime Minister once coronavirus crisis recedes in the country.
Oli also promised to make necessary amendments in the party statute to make room for the third chairman in the party.
With the widening rift in the party PM Oli, who is losing his popularity for his amnesty for the corrupt leaders and bureaucrats, had tried to win favor of the senior leaders.
Meeting PM Oli in person, leader Nepal informed him on Thursday that he could not accept his offer.
“I am not interested to become the party’s chairman,” a leader close to Nepal quoted him as saying, adding, “I am convinced at the fact that you are unable to run both party and the government. I would rather suggest you to quit both the posts.”
Before meeting PM Oli, Nepal had informed another chairman Dahal about the call from PM’s residence.
Oli had called Nepal saying he wanted to finalize the list for various posts in the constitutional bodies.
PM Oli is trying to woo different leaders with various promises; but the leaders citing his past tricks are skeptic about the PM’s honesty in keeping his words.
