KATHMANDU: Nepal has confirmed two new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday taking the total cases to 54.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, two persons from Rautahat have tested positive for coronavirus.
The two persons, a 24-year-old man from Brindaban Municipality-9 and another person 35-year-old from Debahigonahi Municipality, had returned from India recently.
They were found to be have been infected during a test at the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu.
The 24-year-old man from Brindaban was sent home from the quarantine at Chandrapur on April 18 after he was tested negative following a PCR test in Janakpur.
He has entered Nepal from the Indian city of Kolkata on April 4.
Likewise, another person had returned from Delhi on April 16. The health condition of both the persons is normal, the Ministry said.
With this, the total number of infected persons in the country has reached 54.
Dr Udaya Narayan Singh, the in-charge of the emergency department of Narayani Hospital, said that they have been kept in isolation.
He further said that the contact tracing of the people is going on.
Meanwhile, 16 out of the 54 persons receiving treatment for COVID-19 have returned home after recovery.
According to the Ministry, 36 people, who are currently undergoing treatment, are in good health.
The Ministry said 4,545 people in State-1, seven thousand 626 people in Bagmati State, four thousand 926 people in Gandaki State, three thousand 471 people in State-5, five thousand 228 people in Karnali State and 11 thousand 961 people in Sudur Paschim State have undergone testing as per the RDT method so far.
Likewise, 20,195 people are in quarantine while 106 people are kept in isolation across the country.
Among them, eight people are kept in isolation in the Kathmandu Valley and 98 others are in isolation in various districts.
