KATHMADNU: Nepal’s flag was illuminated on the Matterhorn — a mountain in the Swiss Alps — on Saturday in a show of solidarity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Nepal is not only the country with friendly people but also the country with the highest mountains in the world. Therefore, Zermatt as a mountain village feels particularly connected. We send a strong sign of our solidarity,” Zermatt Tourism said in a Twitter post.

Since March 24, light artist Gerry Hofstetter has illuminated the mountainside in Zermatt daily with flags, in solidarity with various other countries that have been hit by the coronavirus.
