KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has said that the government should increase resources and provide guardianship to fight and keep all Nepalis at home and abroad safe from coronavirus.

There is a need to increase relief support, treatment and rescue of Nepali people in foreign countries stranded due to coronavirus pandemic after holding consultations about their situation, reads a statement released on Saturday by NC’s Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma, referring to approximately 5 million Nepalis living in foreign countries.

The NC drew the attention of the government, held dialogue at Prime Ministerial and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs level and demanded the inquiry and rescue of Nepali people in foreign countries affected by the infection, he said.

The NC stressed the need to manage treatment on time to the infected Nepalis in foreign countries and provide them security, referring to over 1,000 infected Nepalis and 50 deaths from the infection across the globe.

The government should carry out a study and form a rescue task force to immediately rescue those Nepali migrant workers stranded due to lockdown across the world, adds the statement.

Nepali migrant workers stranded in Darchula district while returning home from India should be rescued and quarantined in coordination with all three levels— federal, state and local.
