KATHMANDU: The government has extended the suspension on domestic and international flights until May 15.

A meeting of the High-Level Coordination Committee on the Prevention and Containment of COVID-19 held on Saturday decided to suspend all flights, according to Secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers Narayan Prasad Bidari.

Earlier, both domestic and international flights were suspended till April 30.

Passenger evacuation flights, freighter flights, rescue flights, and other emergency flights can be operated during the period.

The meeting reviewed the attempts made so far for the prevention and control of coronavirus. But, it didn’t take any decision on the lockdown, Bidari said.

He added that a meeting of the Council of Ministers will make a final call on the lockdown.

The meeting also reviewed the effectiveness of the lockdown from multiple angles and thanked all those medical workers, security forces, stakeholders concerned and media who contributed to the implementation of lockdown and in making it successful.

After finding the cases of coronavirus from the foreign returnees, the country is in lockdown since March 24.

The government has extended the lockdown period four times so far, and the lockdown period of the fourth time is expiring on Monday morning.

Nepal has so far reported 49 COVID-19 cases and 11 patients have been discharged after recovery. Out of 49 infected with the COVID-19, some are Indian nationals.
