93 Sri Lankans to be repatriated from Nepal on Friday

KATHMANDU: Sri Lankan government is taking its citizens back from Nepal on Friday via a special flight.

Sri Lankan Airlines is set to operate special flights from Nepal to take back home another 93 Sri Lankan students who have been stranded here due to the prevailing travel restrictions imposed in view of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The special flight on April 24 will take back 93 Sri Lankans from Kathmandu.

The special flight is being operated as part of the Government of Sri Lanka’s program to bring back its citizens and students stranded in a foreign country and is being carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daily News reported.

The Airline earlier operated several such flights to bring home pilgrims and students stranded in several countries, including a group of students who were trapped in Wuhan during the early days of the pandemic. That was in fact only the fourth such flight permitted by Chinese authorities.

Sri Lanka’s High Commissions in these states have obtained permission from the respective civil aviation authorities to operate these special flights.

The returnees will be handed over on-arrival to health authorities, armed forces, and other relevant institutions, for necessary procedures including disinfection and quarantine.

The Sri Lankan crew will observe all health regulations when operating these flights such as wearing PPE kits and disinfection of aircraft and personnel.
