Mother’s Day being celebrated across country

KATHMANDU: The Mother’s Day, a festival which falls on Baisakh Krishna Paksha, is being celebrated across the country today.

Dedicated to mothers, this festival is celebrated in reverence for mothers by providing them with presents and nutritious foods and receiving blessings.

People used to throng Matatirtha in the capital but this time this fair is not taking place due to the lockdown enforced by the government to stem Coronavirus spread.

Sons and daughters get up early in the morning, take bath and provide nutritious foods and clothes to their lovey mothers and receive blessings in return.

Meanwhile, those whose mothers have passed away remember their mothers’ good deeds by offering alms to the needy or pinda to the departed souls amidst rituals.

The importance of mother is greater than any other thing as she gives birth to her children by keeping them in her womb for nine months.

Meanwhile, Matatirtha Fair which is held every year at Thankot in Chandragiri Municipality-6 in the western part of the capital on the occasion of Baisakh Krishna Paksha has been stalled due to the lockdown this year.

Mayor Ghana Shyam Giri has said locals have been notified not go to Matatirtha this time and those who violate the order will be fined up to Rs 100 each.
