KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC), the main opposition party, has termed Prime Minister KP Oli’s decision of introducing an ordinance to ensure an easy party split as nothing more than an ‘unseasonal music’.

A meeting of the cabinet had on Monday decided to introduce an ordinance that allowed party split by garnering the support of 40 percent of the Parliamentary Party members and the party’s central committee.

NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma labelled the decision as ‘untimely’ at a time when the country is combating the novel coronavirus.

The time, Sharma said, was to combat the coronavirus, not engage on other minor or political issues. “This is indeed irrelevant and meaningless,” Sharma said.
