KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is preparing to implement lockdown more strictly and will take action against those not obeying the nationwide lockdown.
The government has been enforcing lockdown throughout the country since March 24 to contain the outbreak of COVID-19.
KMC Spokesperson Ishworman Dangol said the lockdown would be enforced more strictly and seriously by coordinating with the federal government since the number of lockdown rule breakers in Kathmandu district was increasing lately.
KMC has mobilized police in every thoroughfare to facilitate the public while public awareness drive continues. KMC has expressed its concern that despite the lockdown, people were crowding the public places, especially the food shops- every morning and evening, and were not maintaining the social distancing.
KMC had issued permission for opening vegetable markers in 11 places in Kathmandu while the food shops have been ordered to open until 8 am.
KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya has been urging public to stay indoors since the onset of the stay-at-home order. Mayor Shakya had made public the name and number of all the people’s representatives in Kathmandu district in case public faced any contingency and needed the local government’s support.
It has been found that public in Makhan Tole, Indra Chowk, Asan, Damaitole, Chettrapati, Shova Bhagawati among others were disobeying the lockdown. KMC, thus, is all set to step up its surveillance in these places.
