KATHMANDU: Total coronavirus cases in Nepal have reached 12 on Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Population stated.
Three Jamatis in Birgunj have been confirmed to be infected with COVID-19, the Ministry of Health has confirmed.
They were living in a mosque located in Birgunj Metropolis-2 and have been put in isolation at Narayani Hospital.
Their swab samples were tested at the Hetauda-based lab and reconfirmed at the Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory after a preliminary report in the Hetauda-based Vector Borne Disease Research and Training Center.
The NPHL also confirmed that the test report positive of the three persons aged 37, 44 and 55 respectively.
The three had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation from March 1-15 in the Indian capital of New Delhi.
While one of the infected is from New Delhi, the two others are from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
It has been revealed that several people from various countries, including Nepal and India who had attended the conference were tested positive for coronavirus.
Several COVID -19 cases in India have been suspected with Tablighi Jamaat connection.
Jamaatis in India had attended the Tablighi Jamaat Markaz event in South Delhi’s Nizammudin last month.
Jamaati – is derived from the name of South Asian religion-political party Jamaat-e-Islami – that has wings in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.
They are basically the supporters of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba, Jamaat-e-Islami, or the Islami Jamiat-e-Talibaat.
Indian authorities are still endeavoring to track the Jamaatis but many are still at large.
Highly-placed sources claimed that a total of 26 Tabilighi Jamaatis have been arrested from different locations of Birgunj.
The arrested Jamaatis even misbehaved with the health workers at the hospital where they were taken in the suspicion for Covid-19 infection.
Police sources claimed around 200 Jamaatis are hiding at different places of the Terai, including Sunsari, Rautahat, Saptari, Parsa, Bara, Kapilvastu, Rupendehi, and Banke threatening the spread of coronavirus in the country.
They are learnt to have sneaked into Nepal after taking part in the religious gathering that took place in Nizamuddin Markaz of Tablighi Jamaat. Police have initiated a search operation in the Terai area to find out the Jamaatis, who are hiding in different areas, police sources have claimed.
These people are also alleged to have been one of the reasons for the outbreak of coronavirus in India.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh bordering Nepal, the coronavirus infection has taken a widespread.
A total of 17 foreign deposits Thailand and Indonesia origin were sent to jail after quarantine was over in Bahraich in the state, Indian media reports have reported.
The police in Bahraich had earlier arrested some 21 Tabulagis, including 17 foreigners from Thailand and Indonesia from the city’s Taj and Quraysh mosques.
