Three names recommended for Governor, likely to be appointed today

KATHMANDU: Three names have been recommended for the post of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the country’s central bank.

A recommendation committee led by Minister of Finance Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada has sent three names — Dr Rajan Khanal, Maha Prasad Adhikari, and Chintamani Siwakoti — to the cabinet.

According to a highly-placed source, Minister Khatiwada will table the names in the cabinet today itself. The cabinet meeting is likely to appoint the new governor today itself.

Khanal was a formal secretary at the Ministry of Finance while Siwakoti, the deputy-governor at NRB and now serving as the acting governor in the central bank.

Similarly, Adhikari, Chief Executive Office at Nepal Investment Board, was a former deputy governor.

Former Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota and former governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai were in the recommendation committee.
