Nepal Army to construct 100-bed isolation wards, 30-bed high care unit



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Army (NA) has made necessary preparations to prevent and control the possible outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.

Accordingly, the NA is establishing isolation wards with high care facilities. A newly constructed general OPD building at Chhauni hospital premises has been developed as the isolation ward with high care facilities.

A 100- bed isolation wards along with 30-bed high care wards are being established there, said Dr. Shreejan Malla at the hospital. He added that the preparations to set up the treatment center have been almost completed.

Dr. Malla added that the beds would be developed following three categories, at the first category, persons suspected with Corona would be kept until their lab reports confirmed and if anyone is found positive then would be shifted to second category beds and if anyone found severe would be kept in third category beds.

Meanwhile, NA is establishing a 20-bed ICU unit for the treatment of Corona affected and it would come into operation within a week, said NA spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey. The government has assisted Rs 100 million and NA has allocated Rs 70 million for the construction of the ICU unit.

The chief secretary Lok Darshan Regmi, Chief of army staff Purna Chandra Thapa, Nepal Police Chief Thakur Gyawali, Armed Police Force Chief Shailendra Khanal among other high ranking government officials today inspected the Chhauni-based hospital.
