BAITAIDI: After the bridge lockdown by the Indian government in Dharchula, Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, a Nepali had a new idea to cross the border by swimming and reaching home back safely.
Indra Raj Khatri, 48, of Dhilasaini Ruralmunicipality-1 of Baitadi on Monday arrived in Baitadi, Nepal by crossing the Mahakali river by swimming.
Due to the lockdown, he was stranded in Dharchula for three days. As soon as he arrived Nepal, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force took control of him.
He tried to defend his deed as a means of urging the government to open the border so as to let Nepalis stranded on next side come home. ” My aim of swimming is to urge the Chief District Officer of Darchula to open the bridge, where hundreds of Nepalis are lockdown,” he said.
It is reported that some 300 Nepalis are stranded in Nepal-India border near Darchula.
