KATHMANDU: Some 305 foreigners of different countries have been evacuated from Kathmandu on Friday.

An aircraft of Qatar Airways took off from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) carrying them — mostly German and French nationals – on the fourth day of the week-long lockdown imposed by the Government of Nepal aimed at controlling the infection of the coronavirus in the country.

A chartered Qatar Airways flight was chartered by the German government, source said.

Meanwhile, the German Embassy in Kathmandu had earlier this week requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to arrange for the withdrawal of over 800 German tourists stranded in Kathmandu, Lukla, and Pokhara.

The Government of Nepal has suspended all internationals flights until April 1 due to the spread of coronavirus cases.

However, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has permitted two flights on Friday and Saturday upon the request of the European Union, including German Embassy.
