Two bombs explode in Thailand’s Yala, 18 wounded

BANGKOK: Two bombs exploded in front of a government office in Yala province of Thailand on Tuesday wounding 18 people.

Thai authorities said the explosions occurred in front of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center, a government body that looks after three Malay-Muslim majority provinces of Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani.

The Center was hosting a meeting about the outbreak of the coronavirus in the region prior to the explosions, international media reports have said.

Colonel Pramote Prom-in, a military regional security spokesman, said that the first bomb was a grenade thrown outside the SBPAC office fence.

The second one, a car bomb, exploded about 10 minutes after the first explosion. Five police officers, two soldiers, five reporters, and two bystanders were injured in the second blast.

No group has claimed the responsibility so far.
