3-member panel to probe 8 judges over gold smuggling

KATHMANDU: Judicial Council (JC) has formed a three-member committee led by Justice Kedar Prasad Chalise to investigate eight judges involved in the 33 kg gold smuggling and the murder of Sanam Shakya.

Judges Mira Khadka and Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha are members in the panel.

Earlier Justice Ishwor Prasad Khatiwad had been entrusted to investigate the case.

A powerful committee was formed after Khatiwada, who was earlier entrusted to investigate the case, proposed the JC to look into the case.

A JC meeting led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana formed the committee on Monday.

The JC has ordered to probe eight judges including Chief Judge of Biratnagar Hight Court Dr. Kul Ratna Bhurtel, judges Nagendra Karna, Saranga Subedi, Thir Bahadur Karki, Umesh Raj Paudel, Umesh Kumar Singh, Janak Pandey and Sadhuram Sapkota, who had been implicated in the much-talked gold smuggling case.
