NSC to postpone all sporting events amid coronavirus threat

KATHMANDU: The National Sports Council (NSC) said it will postpone all scheduled sports events across the country till the next notice.

NSC member-secretary Ramesh Silwal said that the decision to this effect has been made due to the growing threats of coronavirus spread in the country.

The decision to this effect has been made in line with the government directives to refrain from organizing and participating in assemblies, get-togethers, functions, etc.

Silwal said discussions are underway and a decision is likely very soon. “We will follow the government’s instructions,” he said.

Several football events are currently underway outside Kathmandu Valley while some major events are soon to come.

Likewise, the new edition of the Everest Premier League (EPL) is scheduled to begin on March 14 in Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, it has been learned that Australia, too, has written to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC to postpone the matches.

It should be noted that Nepali footballers are playing against Chinese Taipei and Australia.
