BIRATNAGAR: Two people traveling on a tempo died after being hit by a tipper at Milan chowk in ward no. 19 of Biratnagar.

The incident took place last night when the tipper — Ko.1 Ka. 2917 — hit the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction, police said.

The deceased have been identified as tempo driver Baburam Sardar, 45, of Gramthan and his six-year-old granddaughter Arohi Sardar, Biswa Adhikari, chief of the police office, said.

Following the accident, irate locals set the tipper on fire.

Police have taken the tipper into custody for necessary action.

Meanwhile, in Mahottari, a motorcycle rider died after being hit by a tipper — Na. 1 Ka. 5826 — in Mangalbazaar of Pipara.

Kalicharan Yadav, 35, of Samsi rural municipality, Mahottari succumbed to his injuries at the local hospital on Wednesday morning.

The driver and the tipper have been taken into police custody for action, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Budathoki.
