Global death toll from COVID19 climbs to 2,922; over 83,000 infected

KATHMANDU:  The novel coronavirus has claimed more than 2,800 people worldwide, with the vast majority in mainland China, CNN reported.

According to the international media, there have been more than 83,000 global cases, with infections in every continent except Antarctica.

The World Health Organization warned that the outbreak has reached the “highest level” of risk for the world.

Meanwhile, major stock indexes in the US recorded their worst week since the 2008 financial crisis.

On Friday, 47 more people died in mainland China from coronavirus, according to China’s National Health Commission (NHC).

All but two of those deaths were in Hubei province, which is believed to be the epicenter of the pandemic.

According to CNN, the total death toll from the new virus in mainland China has surged to 2,835 since the start of the outbreak in December last year.

As many as 87 people have died of coronavirus outside of China.
