Parikrama lead guitarist and founder Sonam Sherpa dies



KURSEONG The founding member and lead guitarist of acclaimed band Parikrama, Sonam Sherpa died today in Kurseong at the age of 48.

According to reports, the musician, who was in Kurseong to record music for an upcoming movie, suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

Playing guitars since he was 9, Sherpa formed Parikrama on June 17, 1991, in Delhi along with Subir Malik, who is also the organ player in the band. Sherpa was known for giving music to the band’s many hits including But It Rained, Tears of the Wizard and Am I Dreaming.

Sherpa, who born on October 8, 1971, in Kalimpong in West Bengal, was a renowned musician and composer. He even composed music for Bollywood films like Majunath. He also owned and ran the Parikrama School of Music situated in Hauz Khas.

Sonam Sherpa was also featured in the ‘Top 10 Guitarist of India’ list by the Rolling Stones magazine. He was also a part of CNBC’s Young Turks, a show focusing on young entrepreneurs.

The BBC also featured him and the band in a rockumentary while on their Download Festival Tour.
