Writ petition filed at SC against ex-PMs Bhattarai and Nepal

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday against former Prime Ministers Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai and Madhav Kumar Nepal on corruption case in the controversial Lalita Niwas land grab scam.

Senior advocate Balkrishna Neupane filed the writ against the former PMs seeking the court’s order to initiate corruption case against them as well.

It should be noted that the anti-graft body, Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had last Wednesday lodged corruption cases against three former ministers in the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.

The CIAA had, however, spared former PMs Dr Bhattarai and Nepal who had headed the cabinet during the time.

The CIAA had in its decision said that looking into the cabinet’s policy decisions does not fall under its jurisdiction.

In the writ, senior advocate Neupane has stated that the CIAA has exempted Dr Bhattarai and Nepal.
