Nepali footballer Sabitra Bhandari shines in India

KATHMANDU: A member of the national women football team, Sabitra Bhandari, has given her best performance in India in the ongoing fourth edition of the Indian Women Football League there.

She has scored 12 goals in four matches and is the highest scorer in the league so far. At home, Sabitra plays from the Armed Police Force (APF) Club.

This is the second time she is playing in Indian Women Football League. She had gone to India on January 21 to play the League from the Gokulum Club.

Last year, she had played in the League from the Sethu FC, which is the defending champion. Sabitra scored 15 goals in the League in its last edition.

Twelve teams from all over India are competing in the League.

Sabitra gets jersey with Arsenal star Ozil’s signature

Meanwhile, Sabitra has been gifted a sports shirt bearing the signature of Arsenal football star Mesut Ozil. The Arsenal midfielder’s agent, Erkut Sogut handed over the jersey to her.

Sabitra’s Gokulum Club has won in all four games played under the League so far. She had scored three goals in the qualifier matches before the start of the League.

Together with Sabitra, another Nepali woman football team member Anita Basnet is playing in the League from Sethu FC. Both Sabitra and Anu’s teams have entered the semi-final of the League.
