DHARAN: The 22nd edition of the Budhasubba Gold Cup is scheduled to kick off from February 22 in the eastern city of Dharan.

Dharan Football Club, the organizer of the tournament, informed on Thursday that eight teams, both from home and abroad, will participate in the competition.

On the occasion, Club’s Chairman Kishor Rai said that the prize of the competition has been increased to Rs 1 million to the winner and Rs 500,000 to the first runner-up after the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) upgraded Budhasubba to ‘A’ category.

In the previous years, the winning team was given Rs 800,000 in cash and Rs 400,000 to the first runner-up.

Manang Marsyangdhi Club, Machchhindra Club, Nepal Police Club, UK FC, Japan Football League Team and others would take part in the competition this year, the organizer said.

Likewise, the organizer will use the recently introduced Video Assistant Referee (VAR)—the first of its kind in the country– from this edition of the competition.
