National Building Code amended

KATHMANDU: The National Building Code-105 has been revised, said the National Reconstruction Authority, the Central Project Implementation Unit.

The building code amendment took place after analyzing earthquake risks and Nepal’s topography following damage to private and public structures by the 2015 earthquake and aftershocks, and after extensive discussions with concerned stakeholders in this regard, said Nawa Raj Pyakurel, project director for the Unit.

A meeting of the building construction management upgrading (consolidation) committee held recently under the chairpersonship of Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development passed the amended code.

This code is Nepal’s original one formulated to end the country’s dependence on neighboring India and other countries, said Pyakurel. Building directives would be formed in line with the code, he said.

In this regard, a 13-member advisory committee led by chief of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction under the Ministry of Urban Development had been formed.

Likewise, a seven-member executive committee led by the deputy director-general of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction was also formed.
