Winter rain causes massive crop damage  



BANKE: The winter rain occurred for the past couple of days has caused big damages to agriculture yields in Banke.

Local farmers became happy when the shower had started occurring since early Friday morning. But their excitement did not last long till Friday evening.

“The winter rain that continued up to 9.30 pm waterlogged the agro field and the entire seasonal and off-seasonal crops submerged with water”, Ramferan Maure of Janaki rural municipality-3, Indrapur in Banke.

The incessant shower triggered huge damage to lintel, gram and pea farming while the crops cultivated along canal-side and downstream fields have also remained affected.

The downstream field is still logged with water and it may take at least three days to get it dried, shared agriculture technician.

The rain with hailstorm caused more damage to the crops, said Lal Bahadur Khatry, a farmer from Khajura-2, Sitapur.
According to the preliminary data, the downpour has triggered damages to agro farming cultivated in 25 percent of the area.
