Nepal bags four gold medals on SAG Day 9

KATHMANDU: Nepal bagged four gold medals on Monday, the ninth day of the ongoing South Asian Games (SAG), to take the gold medal tally to 49. Nepal won two gold medals in boxing and one each in judo and swimming today.

Boxing

Nepal’s Minu Gurung and Bhupendra Thapa won a gold medal each for Nepal in boxing today. Gurung defeated her Indian opponent in the 45-kg weight category event to pocket the medal. Likewise, Thapa won a gold medal in boxing under 64 kg-category defeating Indian player Manish Kaushal.

Judo

Punam Shrestha won a gold medal in judo under the 75-kg category. She has become the second player to win the gold medal in judo. She knocked out her Bangladeshi opponent.

Swimming

Gaurika Singh added a gold medal in swimming. She won the medal in the 100-meter freestyle category clocking 58.13 seconds. It is the fourth gold medal for her in the ongoing regional sporting extravaganza.

Nepal has been placed second in the medal tally pocketing 49 gold medals. Nepal has so far won 175 medals with 48 silver and 78 bronze medals.

India continues to top the medal tally with 264 medals including 138 gold, 83 silver and 43 bronze medals.

Similarly, Sri Lanka is at the third position with 36 gold medals, 74 silver and 106 bronze.

Pakistan has secured the fourth position with 30 gold, 33 silver and 48 bronze, while Bangladesh is in the fifth position with 18 gold, 29 silver and 71 bronze.

Likewise, Maldives is at the sixth position with one gold and three bronzes, and Bhutan at the seventh position with 13 bronze medals.
