Bhutan inches closer to final, trashes Maldives 2-1



KATHMANDU: Bhutan has inched closer to the men’s football under the South Asian Games (SAG) underway in Kathmandu defeating the Maldives 2-1 on Thursday.

At the match played at Dashrath Stadium, Bhutan took lead in the 55th minute of the game with a goal from Chhimi Dorje. Fub Thilne doubled the tally for Bhutan after scoring in the 84th minute of the game.

The Maldives scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute.

Bhutan had defeated Bangladesh 1-0 in its first match and faced a 4-0 defeat against Nepal. Bhutan will take on Sri Lanka on its last match on Saturday.

Bhutan has earned six points from three matches while Nepal has four points from two matches. Sri Lanka and the Maldives have an equal two points while Bangladesh is last with one point.
