MUSTANG: The obstruction of Beni-Jomsom roadway has caused a shortage of petroleum products in Mustang. It has further resulted in hindrances to the construction works.
As the national pride project, Beni-Jomsom-Korala roadway, has been badly affected after heavy rainfall, the development and construction activities carried out by the federal, provincial and local governments came to a halt. The downpour occurred from September 24-27 in Mustang caused landslides, river erosion and floods, thereby cutting off the Beni-Jomsom road that links Korala checkpoint in the north border.
The road blockage hindered fuel transport. The roadway has been disrupted for six days. Owing to shortage of fuel, the heavy equipment used for construction and vehicles carrying supplies are left out of use. A fuel station is run at Thasang Rural Municipality-4 Ghansa on the way to Mustang from Myagdi. But, it is running out.
Chief of project on road development, Tejashwi Sharma, informed RSS that only 700 litres of diesel was received at the petrol pump of Ghansa. It is meant for the vehicles/equipments used for repairing the Beni-Jomsom roadway, which was damaged by the recent landslides and river erosion.
Although efforts are being made to restore the roads from Galeshwor and Tatopani 0f Myagdi, project chief Sharma shared the plight that inability to arrange sufficient fuel was sheer hindrance to it. The diesel stocked by the construction entrepreneurs was now depleting fast, thereby causing utter difficulty to advance development works.
According to Rabin Chokhyal, chief of the Infrastructure Development Office in Mustang, the supply of construction materials and fuel was disrupted after the road blockage on a long stretch.
