KATHMANDU: Chairman of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said he was for addressing the transitional justice soon.
Addressing a program organized by the Conflict Victims’ Common Platform on the occasion of 13th anniversary of the signing of Comprehensive Peace Accord here Thursday, Chairman Dahal reiterated that remaining tasks of peace process would be settled soon. “I’m the leader of people’s revolution. I must own up both good and bad sides of it. Anyone involving in the serious crimes during revolution must be punished. I can’t shirk it. The victims’ family members won’t spare me even after my death,” he underscored.
Dahal further said he was not for prolonging the peace process. As the army integration was major priority after the signing of the CPA, the transitional justice was delayed, he admitted. “I’m dogged with the agenda of completing remaining task of transitional justice,” he said, adding that it was now the priority.
According to him, the acts relating to the peace process and justice would be amended after garnering suggestions from the victim families from all seven States. He shared that although the Commission on Investigation of the Enforced Disappeared Persons would get same officials, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission will have new office-bearers.
Speaking on the occasion, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said that was high time the transitional justice got addressed. He also urged Chairman Dahal to be more active to this regard. Nepali Congress leader Krishna Sitaula said it was not only the task of political parties but of entire State to settle the remaining works of peace process. Common initiatives would help reach conclusion, he added.
