KATHMANDU: The death toll from the Rasuwa floods has reached 1,355, according to authorities, with nearly 5,000 people still reported missing or unaccounted for amid ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the recovered remains also include various human body parts. So far, 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to their respective families.
NDRRMA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 169 bodies were recovered in Rasuwa, 197 in Nuwakot, 70 in Dhading, 75 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 363 in Chitwan, 222 in Nawalparasi East and 221 in Nawalparasi West.
She said around 4,996 people have been reported missing or unaccounted for following the floods. According to the latest records, details have been updated for around 1,967 missing persons in one affected area and around 2,340 in Nuwakot. The authority said around 100 security personnel and government employees, along with approximately 589 foreign nationals, are also among those reported missing.
Meanwhile, 13,396 people stranded by the floods have been rescued so far. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), 6,672 injured people have received medical treatment. Of them, 323 remain under treatment at various hospitals, while 228 have been discharged and returned home.
Currently, 3,533 flood-affected people are staying at 39 holding centres established in the affected areas. Of the total, 669 are in Rasuwa, 2,651 in Nuwakot and 213 in Dhading, according to the NEA.
A total of 21,402 security personnel have been mobilized for search and rescue, relief distribution and security management in the flood-affected areas. The mobilized personnel include 9,287 from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from the Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force.
