KATHMANDU: The World Health Organization (WHO) is preparing to provide essential medicines and medical equipment to people affected by the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa this morning.
Following discussions with Health and Food Hygiene Minister Nisha Mehta, the Ministry of Health said WHO will supply basic medicines and health equipment sufficient to support around 1,000 people. The ministry also said 15 emergency tents, each covering 24 square meters, will be sent to the affected areas.
According to the ministry, 100 emergency beds have been reserved for flood victims at Bir Hospital and the Trauma Center in Kathmandu. So far, three injured people have been rescued and brought to Kathmandu for treatment.
The ministry said it is coordinating with federal hospitals in Kathmandu, the Blood Transfusion Center, the health ministries of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the Nepal Red Cross Society, Lions Clubs and Nepal Scouts to provide emergency medical services.
Preparations are also underway to deploy additional doctors and health workers to the affected areas through the Nepal Red Cross and Nepal Scouts. The ministry has already dispatched six doctors and two nurses from the Trauma Center to the affected locations.
Similarly, an ambulance equipped with essential medical supplies has been sent to the affected areas, according to the ministry.
The ministry is also coordinating with health posts in Dhunche and Rasuwa Hospital to ensure continued medical support for those affected by the disaster.
