KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is leaving for Jhapa tomorrow (Saturday), marking his first visit to the district since the House of Representatives election held on March 5.
Oli, who contested the election from Jhapa-5, had spent a considerable period in the constituency campaigning. However, as his name is registered on the voter list of Suryabinayak Municipality in Bhaktapur, he returned to Kathmandu to cast his vote.
In the election, he was defeated by senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balendra Shah (Balen) by a margin of 50,000 votes.
Following the recommendation of the Gauri Bahadur Karki-led commission, which was formed to investigate the incidents of September 8-9, 2025, for a criminal investigation, police were deployed overnight at Oli’s residence in Gundu. He was arrested and taken into custody.
