Heavy rain forecast in parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki



KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions continue to affect the entire country, with the low-pressure monsoon trough currently lying slightly north of its average position near Nepal’s Terai region, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Department said generally to completely cloudy conditions are expected across the country throughout the day.

According to the latest weather bulletin, there is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall in some places of the Himalayan region, while light to moderate rainfall is likely in many places of the hilly region and in some areas of the Terai.

Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many places in the Terai areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Madhesh, Koshi, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces today.

The Department has also forecast heavy rainfall in one or two places of the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with a possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated hilly areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally to completely cloudy across the country. Moderate rain and snowfall are likely in some mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and in one or two places in the mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Department has urged the public to remain alert in areas prone to flash floods, inundation, landslides and soil erosion due to the risk of heavy rainfall.

It has also urged people to regularly follow updated weather information, warning that adverse weather conditions may affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
