Durga Prasai arrested from Bhaktapur

KATHMANDU: Activist Durga Prasai has been arrested from his residence in Bhaktapur this evening, police said.

He was taken into custody a short while ago by a joint team from the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, and the Crime Investigation Office, Teku.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Prasai had held a press conference in which he announced plans to intensify a movement demanding the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu state and the monarchy.

Police said he was arrested on charges of disturbing social harmony through inflammatory remarks.

Prasai has previously been arrested on several occasions over allegations related to provocative statements and activities.
