KATHMANDU: Coordinator of Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has expressed serious concern over the recent Sunsari incident, saying it has raised important questions for the government.
Speaking at the all-party meeting being held at the Public Accounts Committee Hall in Singha Durbar at the call of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane on Wednesday, Prachanda said the violence in Sunsari had created a sensitive situation that demands political maturity and collective responsibility.
“We express serious concern over the tension seen in Sunsari. At such a sensitive time, all parties should exercise restraint and take the initiative to maintain social harmony and mutual trust,” Prachanda said.
He recalled that Nepal’s political parties had previously demonstrated unity during major crises such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and the constitution-making process.
“In the past, whether during natural disasters or the complex process of drafting the constitution, we presented an example of consensus and national unity. Even today, the same political maturity, dialogue, and sense of responsibility are needed,” he said.
Prachanda, however, questioned the government’s ability to move toward a common solution on issues of national importance. “But a serious question has arisen as to why the government has not been able to move toward a common solution on such sensitive issues of national significance,” he said.
