KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has accused the government of focusing more on cheap popularity and publicity-oriented activities rather than addressing people’s core concerns.
Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Shahi said the government should prioritise issues such as infrastructure development, economic prosperity, good governance, and social justice, which he said are the current expectations of citizens.
He warned that activities aimed at gaining short-term popularity and publicity would not lead the country towards development but could push it towards decline.
Shahi said the government should respond to concerns raised by the opposition through its performance rather than viewing criticism as an attack and engaging in confrontation.
He also claimed that the government’s immature decisions and actions have contributed to growing public distrust towards the administration.
