KATHMANDU: The issue of what lawmakers described as government-protected disorderly parking carried out at various media houses and public places on Monday has been raised in the House of Representatives.
Speaking during Tuesday’s parliamentary meeting, CPN-UML lawmaker Ganesh Singh Thagunna said blocking vehicles in front of media outlets and public areas to create fear and intimidation reminded him of the terror spread by the Panchayat-era “Mandale” system.
Similarly, Nepali Communist Party lawmaker Ramesh Malla criticized what he called arbitrary parking carried out with government protection, saying it had disrupted normal activities in the New Road area.
Malla said vehicles involved in such parking were allowed to leave after being issued fines of only Rs 500. He demanded that those vehicles be fined Rs 100,000 and seized.
