KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane held a four-hour meeting at Lamichhane’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Sunday.
According to sources close to the two leaders, the meeting focused on the country’s latest political developments, the situation of displaced landless families and other current national issues.
Officials from both secretariats said Lamichhane advised the prime minister to assess the changing political situation and respond accordingly.
The two leaders also discussed the management of landless squatters and growing public dissatisfaction over the government’s handling of the issue, according to the sources.
A member of the prime minister’s secretariat said Shah visited Lamichhane’s residence for the meeting, which reportedly lasted from around 11 am to 3 pm. The discussion followed a telephone conversation between the two leaders on Friday evening.
Earlier on Sunday, six ministers visited relocated landless families in Kharipati, Bhaktapur, following their transfer from the flood-affected holding centre in Kirtipur.
The government has been facing public scrutiny over its handling of the displaced families and the death of Ganesh Nepali, who died after attempting self-immolation outside the Department of Passports.
Neither the Prime Minister nor Lamichhane has publicly commented on those issues so far.
