Three family members arrested over fatal khukuri attack in Khotang

KHOTANG: Police have arrested three members of the same family on murder charges following the fatal khukuri attack on a 38-year-old man in Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality-1, Yamkha of Khotang district.

The victim, Dhruba Adhikari of Moriya, died after being attacked with a khukuri during a dispute on Thursday.

Those arrested are Tilak Bahadur Sarki, 57, his wife Bhotimaya Sarki, 52, and their daughter Sita Sarki, 22. According to District Police Office spokesperson and Police Inspector Nirajan Basnet, Tilak Bahadur was arrested immediately after the incident, while his wife and daughter were taken into custody on Friday.

Police said Tilak Bahadur himself informed authorities after the incident. His wife and daughter were later arrested after the victim’s family filed a complaint against them.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Adhikari had gone to Tilak Bahadur’s house to collect wages for labour he had performed when an altercation broke out. During the dispute, he was allegedly attacked with a khukuri and died at the scene.

Police said the incident appears to have stemmed from a financial dispute between the two parties. The suspects are being investigated on charges of murder.

The victim’s body has been handed over to his family following a post-mortem examination, while further investigation is underway, police said.
