Rhododendron plantation begins along Mundum trekking trail to boost tourism

BHOJPUR: Rhododendron saplings have been planted along the Mundum trekking trail in Bhojpur as part of the Sagarmatha afforestation campaign, with the aim of promoting environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

The plantation drive was launched to enhance greenery, protect the local environment and further develop the trekking route, which has emerged as a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors.

Vice-Chairperson Ramadevi Rai of the rural municipality said the initiative seeks to make the surroundings of the Mundum trail greener, more attractive and eco-friendly.

She added that conserving and expanding rhododendrons, Nepal’s national flower, would help strengthen biodiversity while preserving the area’s cultural identity.

The tree plantation programme on Sunday was attended by Rural Municipality Chair Saroj Basnet, Vice-Chair Rai, Chief District Officer Rajan Paudel, Division Forest Office Bhojpur Chief Khudrus Miya, representatives of government agencies and members of the local community.

According to Miya, 500 rhododendron saplings have been allocated for the campaign, of which 100 were planted during the first phase.

The remaining 400 saplings will be planted in phases in the Chakhewa area in coordination with the rural municipality and with the participation of local communities, he said.
