Traffic police penalize 2,000 motorists in a single day



KATHMANDU: Traffic police took action against 2,000 motorists in the Kathmandu Valley in a single day for violating traffic rules, collecting more than Rs 2 million in revenue.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the enforcement drive generated Rs 2,004,014 in fines deposited into the state treasury.

Among those penalized were 61 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, 129 for operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations, 61 for running red lights, and 113 for overspeeding.

Similarly, 107 motorists were fined for violating lane discipline, 84 for unnecessary use of horns in no-horn zones, 93 for parking on footpaths, and 96 for driving on one-way roads.

The remaining 1,256 motorists were penalized for various other traffic rule violations, bringing the total number of actions taken to 2,000.
