KATHMANDU: Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has initiated preparations to discontinue overtime allowances paid to employees of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), citing the need to curb unnecessary expenditure and financial irregularities.
According to the ministry, the move is aimed at addressing millions of rupees in annual spending on overtime payments and strengthening financial discipline within the state-owned corporation.
The ministry is working to revise the additional work allowance provision under the Nepal Oil Corporation Employee Administration Regulations, replacing the existing overtime system with a shift-based work schedule.
Officials say the corporation has been spending millions of rupees every year on overtime allowances alone.
Minister Yadav said such expenditures have imposed an unnecessary financial burden on the corporation while creating opportunities for irregularities. She said restructuring the system would help improve efficiency and accountability.
Under the proposed arrangement, employees would be assigned to different work shifts based on operational requirements instead of receiving overtime allowances.
The ministry believes the reform will significantly reduce administrative costs and contribute to stronger financial management within the Nepal Oil Corporation.
