KATHMANDU: The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has urged its office bearers and members at all levels to step down from their roles within the organization if they are actively involved in political parties or their affiliated organizations.
Issuing a public notice, the NRCS emphasized that volunteers and staff must ensure their conduct aligns with the principles, values, and neutrality of the Red Cross movement.
The organization cited provision 72 (3) of its statute, which states that individuals holding positions in political parties, including sister organizations, or serving in any governmental political structures, cannot simultaneously serve as members or office bearers in any committee, commission, or sub-committee of the Nepal Red Cross Society.
The NRCS further stated that individuals found holding dual roles in violation of the statute would be subject to action as per its governing rules.
The notice also urged the public to report any such cases with evidence to the official email address [email protected].
As a humanitarian organization and part of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, NRCS reiterated its commitment to the principles of neutrality and impartiality. It noted that political interference has often been cited as a factor complicating its internal functioning.
The society also referenced international guidelines from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which discourage political affiliation among active members of national societies.
