Monsoon likely to expand further, heavy rain forecast in Koshi



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds are currently influencing all areas of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, parts of Gandaki Province, and eastern Lumbini Province, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The remaining parts of the country are under the partial influence of westerly and local winds. The Department said the monsoon is likely to spread across the remaining areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as throughout Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, within the next four to five days.

At present, the weather is generally cloudy in the hilly and mountainous regions, while the Terai remains partly cloudy. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are occurring at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

This afternoon, skies are expected to remain generally cloudy over the hilly and mountainous regions, as well as the Terai of Koshi and Madhesh provinces.

Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the hills of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light to moderate snowfall is also possible in some high Himalayan areas.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also likely at some places in the Terai and Madhesh areas of Koshi Province and at one or two places in the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.

The Department has also warned of hot winds in some parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and urged the public to take necessary precautions.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and partly cloudy in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at a few places in the hills of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light to moderate snowfall is also possible in some high Himalayan areas.

The Terai and Madhesh regions of Koshi Province are also likely to receive moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at some places, while isolated showers are expected in the Terai of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

The Department has urged the public to remain alert, particularly in the hilly and Terai areas of Koshi Province, where heavy rainfall at one or two locations could trigger weather-related hazards.
