KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Food Safety has stated that nearly 10,000 vials of anti-rabies vaccine are currently available in stock across the country.
According to ministry spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, a total of 10,011 vials of anti-rabies vaccine are presently stored at central, provincial and district-level hospitals.
Dr. Adhikari said that 2,500 vials of anti-rabies vaccine have already been received through support from the World Health Organization (WHO), while an additional 4,500 vials are expected to arrive within the next few days.
He noted that the ministry has been coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure the uninterrupted availability of rabies prevention and treatment services nationwide.
The ministry has also urged local governments to facilitate dog-bite management and ensure access to necessary vaccination services.
According to Dr. Adhikari, continuous coordination is underway with concerned bodies to maintain service delivery through the systematic distribution and management of available vaccine stocks.
He further stated that Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku currently has enough anti-rabies vaccine stock to meet demand for approximately 40 days.
The ministry expects the vaccine supply system to return to normal once the Department of Health Services completes its ongoing procurement process.
