SC issues show-cause order in Bishnu Poudel writ

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause order in connection with a writ petition filed on behalf of CPN-UML Vice Chair Bishnu Poudel.

A single bench of Justice Shreekant Poudel on Thursday ordered the defendants to submit a written response explaining why the relief sought by the petitioner should not be granted.

The writ petition was filed on Wednesday by Poudel’s wife, Domaya Poudel, challenging his detention and demanding his release. The petition claims that Poudel is being held unlawfully and seeks an order against his continued detention.

The petition names the Special Court, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, and the District Police Office, Surkhet, as defendants.

Poudel was arrested in Surkhet on June 22 in connection with a money laundering case and has since been under custodial investigation.
